ACT Practice Tests:
Official Sample Questions.  These questions are on the official ACT website, and they are a great place to start your test prep.  Good review questions for each topic with answers and explanations.

Practice Plus.  Two great full-length practice exams from McGraw Hill.  Covers English, math, reading, and science with over 400 free practice questions.  These are online tests with interactive scoring and complete explanations.

English, Reading, and Science Practice Exam.  This is an excellent 50-question ACT practice test from Education.com.  But first you should review their 50 ACT tips, which not only teaches strategies for the test but also includes lots of practice questions.

Math Practice Exam.  This ACT mathematics test from Education.com has 50 problems with explanations.  First check out their 50 Math Tips to help you prepare for it.

ACT Math Practice:
ACT Math Sample 1 and Sample 2.  Analyzemath has two practice tests with a total of 90 free ACT math problems.  Includes detailed explanations.

Math Practice Test.  This is a 20-question interactive test from About.com.

ACT Math Guides.  Be sure to review these facts, formulas, and strategies before you take your ACT.

ACT English:
English Questions Test 1 and Test 2.  These 2 multiple choice quizzes are very good practice for the English section of your test.

ACT English Quiz.  This is a 10-question interactive test from About.com.

ACT Writing:
ACT Essay Tips.  Very informative tips and strategies for the writing test from Sparknotes.  Includes a top-scoring ACT sample essay as well.

ACT Example Essays.  This article from Education.com has a sample ACT prompt and six essays, scored from 1-6.  Definitely worth reviewing.

ACT Prep:
ACT Learning Videos.  These 13 videos from McGraw-Hill have very useful tips for answering each type of questions on the ACT.

About the test:
The ACT is a college placement test that is designed to measure the knowledge and skills that are needed for the first year of college.  It is divided into four multiple choice tests which cover English, Math, Reading, and Science.  There is also an optional Writing component.  Here is the breakdown of each section along with the time limits:

  • English: 75 questions in 45 minutes
  • Math: 60 questions in 60 minutes
  • Reading: 40 questions in 35 minutes
  • Science: 40 questions in 35 minutes
  • Writing: 1 prompt in 30 minutes (optional)
